In 5th grade, I was told I needed eyeglasses part time; by 6th grade it was full time. At 11 years old, this was a death sentence. By the time I was 13, all I wanted was contact lenses, which became my birthday gift. I was happy for a while, until I started to develop eye infections, from over-wearing my lenses. By 17, I was told to take out my lenses and wear glasses for no less than 3 months. This was still a death sentence. Glasses were ugly, and in them, so was I.

I went to college for two years acquiring a liberal arts degree. Not knowing what to do with this, I came home and got a job in an eyeglass store so I could get free contact lenses.

The first thing my new boss did was make me wear glasses. But what happened was remarkable. People were coming in saying "I’d like to try on what she is wearing." I started to feel pretty in my glasses. I decided I loved glasses and wanted other people to have the same experience, and to feel attractive in their glasses. I went back to school to learn the art of optics and precision lens grinding and become an optician. I knew I could combine fashion with optics, and change the way people see and feel.

I now own Plainview Opticians, where that is exactly what we do. We help make you feel good and to see better than ever. We specialize in complicated prescriptions, and all our work is done on premises, so we have complete control over our products.

At Plainview Opticians, "Your vision is our focus."
